Honeymoon like a god and goddess in boutique chic

Honeymoon Heaven...

On the isle of Aphrodite, goddess of love, there’s nowhere funkier to honeymoon than Almyra. This cleverly renovated ‘70s hotel now has an ultra trendy entrance with long slate infinity pools and a sleek boutique offering such delights as Paul & Joe and Prada daywear and Dolce & Gabbana and Pucci swimwear. New husbands might want to indulge in a pair of Vibebrequin shorts and there are Havaianas flipflops for everyone. The hotel interior is a combination of minimalism with trendy tangerine leather chairs and deliberately overblown touches like elaborate chandeliers. The slate grey pool with its double white sunloungers is sublime with a great Haagen Daz ice cream bar. There’s a choice of traditional taverna-style restaurant, Mosaics or Nobu-inspired Notios restaurant set on a sea view terrace under olive trees. Honeymooners in the know, head for the ‘Kyma’ (meaning ‘waves’) seafront suites. These self-contained minimalist palaces are the simplest of white boxes from the outside, but inside offer a spacious bedroom-cum-lounge area with gorgeous Tiffany-blue leather easychairs. A chic bathroom has monsoon shower and Crabtree & Evelyn ‘La Source’ goodies. Best of all is the patio leading to a wide grassy area and the sea beyond. An oversized mattress is yours to snuggle up on or sunbath. Each Kyma has its own roof terrace with plenty of space for lounging with cocktail as the sun goes down. Moroccan style lanterns and cushions add to the ambience. Almyra’s new spa opens on April 8 2008 designed by Parisienne Joelle Pleot, whose previous projects include a house for Karl Lagerfeld and the Coco Chanel apartment in Paris. Set in fragrant gardens with sea views, the spa features organic products and natural, marine-based skincare therapies by Just Pure and Osea.

Explore the ancient House of Dionysos and some of the finest classical mosaics in the Mediterranean. Or take a tour of the Tombs of the Kings hewn from solid rock deep underground.
